RedHawks girls soccer team county champions
Posted Jun 3, 2010 By Kate McLaughlinEMC Sports - This year the girls varsity soccer team dominated the season and made SFDCI proud!
The girls never gave an inch during the regular season, taking only one loss, and their great season sent them to the LCIAA (Lanark county) finals. There the RedHawks played Notre Dame and took a fantastic 3-2 win. The goals were scored by the talented Kelsey Dowdall, Jenna McElravy, and Kayla Bristow.
"It felt awesome! We worked really hard as a team to get that goal. It wasn't just myself scoring the goal... the whole team scored it!" said McElravy as she recalled her goal and emphasized how much teamwork was vital to their success.
After their LCIAA victory, the girls headed off to EOSSAA in Kemptville on May 26. Their first game was against the reigning champions, L'Escale and even though it ended with a 1-0 loss, they continued their fight to their next game. Bishop Smith was their next opponent, which resulted in a tie and then a shootout. Goalie Sydney Dubas kept the team alive with her 'cat-like reflexes', keeping the opponents from scoring. The RedHawks won the shootout with goals from Kelsey Dowdall, Carlie Southin, Cassandra MacNevin and Kelsey Gunn.
Even though this win wasn't enough to bring them to the finals, the girls all celebrated a great season full of amazing victories!
The girls played very well despite the heat. Congratulations to the girls soccer team on a fantastic season! Go RedHawks!
